Peter panicked. He didn’t know what to do. Taxes were owed and creditors hounded him for payment. He hesitated to bother Jesus with the problem. After all, Jesus was busy healing the demon-possessed. Why trouble the Lord with a situation about a paltry temple tax? Yet the concern weighed on Peter’s mind.
How often do we have payments due and worry how everything will work out? We want to be full of faith and trust that cash flows, but sometimes bills stack up. Take heart, loved one, God delivers exactly what we need, when we need it.
While Peter fretted, Jesus revealed the plan. “But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours” (Matthew 17:27 NIV).
The Bible doesn’t tell us what kind of fish or how long Peter had to wait for it to land. What we do know is that Jesus made surprising arrangements to secure his disciples. He will do the same for us. Go to the place God appoints and stand in faith. A solution is on the way.
