In Dependence

In U.S. culture, self-reliance is valued. We pride ourselves on being independent and self-sufficient.

But are those godly principles?

Consider the blind trust and vulnerability shown by this tiny cardinal awaiting its parent’s return with food.

I discovered the nest hidden inside the gardenia bush in my backyard. As I rustled the leaves getting flowers, the baby chirped optimistically for breakfast while shielded under an emerald canopy.

Do we think about God’s steadfast presence and how He cares for us? We cannot create rain, nor can we call forth sunshine. Yet He gives us both to ensure our survival.

Maybe being dependent isn’t bad. Acknowledging God’s protection and provision takes pressure off us. We can be faithful where we are and know that He is bringing exactly what we need.

Today’s Bible Verse:

“Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!” (Luke 12:24 NIV)
