Young musicians drum upbeat holiday music

Joy radiated from musicians despite a cold December night at St. Petersburg’s Pier. Upbeat Christian songs warmed a shivering crowd huddled under blankets.

Performers from Our Savior Lutheran Church and School celebrated overcoming major challenges from back-to-back hurricanes Helene and Milton a few weeks prior. In Pinellas County, more than 40,000 homes were damaged or destroyed, with close to 600 businesses ruined, according to news reports.

Yet without missing a beat, members of the school steel drum orchestra tapped a cadence of resilience. Much like the “The Little Drummer Boy” written in 1941 by Katherine Kennicott Davis, the show revealed determination to persevere and honor Jesus.

As we face challenges this holiday season, let’s also move in unity to sound hope.

Pa-rum-pum-pum!
