Romance is nice, but only true love holds us close always.

Romance is nice, but only true love holds us close always.

Sweethearts anticipate Valentine’s Day with eagerness, but those without a significant other may dread the holiday. But we all have a Lover of our souls who seeks us with tender patience.

Jesus’ love isn’t the sappy kind that only shows up when we are at our best. No, indeed. He knows our secret, darkest self, yet still He pursues our hearts.

Consider how two modern poets describe deep and abiding love:

“Keep it like a warm coat
when winter comes to cover you,
or like a pair of thick socks
the cold cannot bite through…”
- Jimmy Santiago Baca, “I Am Offering This Poem”

“It is not a five star stay. It is not
compliments and it is never ever
flattery.
It is solid.
Not sweet but always
nutritious
Always herb, always salt.
Sometimes
grit….”
