Temptations abound. Seductive movies entice us to see images better left alone. Food vendors attract with delicious chemical compounds full of additives and sugars. Clothing merchandisers allure with sheer audacity.
How can we keep purity when invitations to compromise hound us?
In the tug-of-war for our minds, we must focus on what is clean. To do so, we may have to step away from a daily routine to renew a healthy perspective.
Nature walks help me silence the noise and reset. There I look for the path to follow that will keep me out of trouble. I remain alert for landmarks along the trail so that twists and turns won’t confuse.
In the same way, the Bible keeps my feet on righteous paths. Wish I could say that I always go the perfect way. Too often I stumble and make mistakes.
These shortcomings can be opportunities to lean on God more. He is merciful.
I learn to ask for guidance before charging off. At forks in the road, think about long-term consequences.
“Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.” (Proverbs 4:26-27 NIV)
