Hens protect chicks under their wings.

Hens protect chicks under their wings.

Many coins feature animals to symbolize their unique culture. Eagles soar on the U.S. quarter, while kangaroos hop on the Australian dollar. Pictured here is an Irish penny with a hen and her chicks.

What creature might represent you?

Jesus is often referred as a “lion” for His royal lineage, as well as a “lamb” for His innocence and sacrifice.

But do you know He also referred to Himself as a hen?

“…how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings…” (Matthew 23:37 NIV).

He longs to be close and keep us safe, which reveals His tender love.

The question of a relationship with Him is not whether He is interested in us, but if we are willing to draw near.

Today’s Prayer:

Dear Lord:

Battle and confrontation seem the norm these days. We are weary. Please help us draw near to Jesus’ tenderness and rest under the protection of His wings. Amen.
