My human is good-hearted, but she has a lot to learn. I convinced her to sign up for obedience training. Letting her think she was in charge, I played along with the drills.
For example, a well-trained human stood in the center of the arena and demonstrated how to behave. Whenever her Doberman sat, the trainer gave her a treat. Now that’s what I’m talking about. Treats on demand.
It took my human a few tries to get it right, but she did catch on. When I looked at her and sat politely waiting, she was to give me a delicious snack. About time too. She hardly ever shares the table food, which isn’t very nice after all I do to protect her.
Another skill we had to practice was leash walking. When I lead the way, she is to follow. I don’t know why that’s so hard for two-leggers. After all, how am I to defend her if I am stuck behind her heel? No self-respecting canine hides like that.
I kept tugging hard on the leash to show my gal how following worked. She stumbled behind me, missing cues where to go. We’ll keep practicing because I really do love her.
During a break while the humans talked, the adorable poodle next to me barked a greeting. We liked getting to know each other.
“Hey! How’s it going? Do you chase squirrels?” The poodle asked.
“Yes!” I woofed back. “The only thing more fun than that is seeing lizards dive under bushes when I go after ‘em.”
That class is our social time too. Just can’t understand why humans think they are the only ones who speak. And when the trainer sprayed my muzzle with fresh water, I liked it. How nice of her to offer refreshment after all the leash-pulling I’d done.
Five more sessions to go in the basic group. Sure hope my human makes better progress.
