What we hold dear in our hearts reflects outwardly.

My grandmother’s jewelry box contained treasures, and she would open the lid like a magician to reveal sparkling costume accessories. Chunky bracelets rested near dangly earrings.

I felt privileged to see her special possessions and admired the collection. She took delight in sharing them with me.

What we hold close to our hearts is revealed in unexpected moments. If we are generous and kind, then spontaneous acts helping others occur.

However, if we are jealous and stingy, we fear anyone coming near and clench what’s at hand in a tight fist.

Consider the spiritual gems you are collecting. What gifts has God given you? Will these be shared with others in need—or hoarded?

“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good person out of the treasure of his heart brings forth good things.” (adapted from Matthew 12:34-35 NIV)
