The horizon of the Earth from space

The horizon of the Earth from space

Microcosm of the universe

In a yellow dandelion flower

Rooted to the ground

But heading to seed.

Perennial parachutes preparing

To launch, balancing on a breath

To spread colonies far and wide.

Crowned atop a sturdy scepter-stem

Rises an elaborate dome,

Crisscrossing high-rise beams

Constructed of white eyelashes.

Complex infrastructure

Resembles a space module

Poised to disseminate

Pods bearing life,

Traversing currents of air

And dispersing

Into new habitats.

One scientific theory stated

The Big Bang began—

At random, you see—

Causing planetary existence.

An alternate proposal:

God sneezed.

“By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible” (Hebrews 11:3 NIV).
