On what foundation do we stand when difficulties arise? False supports crash under pressure, and we want to be sure to place our confidence in what is secure. Money comes and goes. Family can’t always be there, nor do friends have all the answers. Careers may collapse.
However, Jesus remains steady. If our health fails, He comforts. If we are wronged, He implements justice. If we lack clarity, He offers wisdom.
Pictures of the Son of God often include gentle pastures and docile sheep. There is that tender side to Him. But the cross displayed His unwavering commitment to defend us—paying the death penalty for our wrongdoing with His own body. What other king ever left the throne to become the humble servant?
Revelation 19 tells of a Heavenly Warrior who rides on a white horse and leads God’s army to restore righteousness and defeat evil. Jesus does what is faithful and true. His words fill eternity and give us a solid place to stand. There is no other fortress.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25 NIV).
